  1. Ceremonial Matters
    1. PROCLAMATION – NATIONAL PAYROLL WEEK
      Mayor Harris to proclaim September 1-5, 2008 as “National Payroll Week” in the City of Duluth and present it to Regina Haynes and members of ADP.
    2. PROCLAMATION – NATIONAL ALCOHOL AND DRUG RECOVERY MONTH
      Mayor Harris to proclaim September 2008 as “National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month” as observed by the Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA).
    3. APPRECIATION FOR SERVICE – BOARD MEMBERS
      The Mayor and Council to present certificates of appreciation to Anita Ferri and Terry Franzen of the Planning Commission and Ellen Carleton of the Urban Redevelopment Agency.
    4. OATHS OF OFFICE – PLANNING COMMISSION
      Mayor Harris to administer Oaths of Office to James Johnson and David Marshall.

    1. APPROVAL OF AUGUST 4 AND 11, 2008 MINUTES

    1. ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE ZONING ORDINANCE - OVERLAY DISTRICTS - CASE T#0122-08
      The Mayor and Council to consider an ordinance to amend the Duluth Zoning Ordinance by the addition of Article 24, which proposes the development of two separate overlay districts (BHOD and DOD) to be located along Buford Highway and Downtown Duluth. Comments were received at a public hearing on August 11th and Planning Director Cliff Cross will outline the revisions made since that time.
  4. New Business
    1. TAYLOR PARK DESIGN PRESENTATION
      Playground Chairperson Maxine Garner, Parks and Recreation Advisory Chairperson Wanda Bennewitz, and Parks and Recreation Director Kathy Marelle will present the conceptual plan for the Taylor Park Playground.
    2. ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE FY09 BUDGET – COUNTY ELECTIONS AND POLICE VEHICLE
      The Mayor and Council to consider an ordinance to amend the FY09 budget in order to account for $750 received from Gwinnett County for election workers to setup and cleanup the Bunten Park polling facility for County elections. The City is responsible for hiring and paying the workers who do the setup and cleanup.

      Additionally, one of the City’s police vehicles involved in an accident was determined to be a total loss by our insurance carrier. The City received insurance proceeds in the amount of $10,058 from the carrier and is requesting that this amount be added to the current year’s Consolidated Vehicle Purchase line item budget so that the funds can be used to partially offset the cost of replacing the vehicle.
